Here at Thinking Room, we’re excited about introducing our most recent passion project: Exertype. True to its name, Exertype is the product of weaving together an appreciation for typography and our belief in continuous exercise. Exertype is a platform for our designers and interns to publish their experimental projects in typographic material: through exploring the background and history of typefaces, we had gained a deeper understanding of their essence. We want to share this.
Typography is fundamental for good design. When typographic elements are assembled right, the outcome is a verbal symphony. Typography is a way of communicating a message by being appealing to the eye. It sets the voice of a piece of text, whether it be lilting rhythms or the uniform beat of a drum.
Our hope is for Exertype to become a platform for all designers, professional or aspirational, to seek inspiration and look for concrete references. This is our way of capturing the history of typography as it continually evolves. For this to happen, we are planning exciting collaborations with local design studios and type foundries - a community is only possible with the passionate spirits to support it.
In the near future, we are planning on organising a design challenge, so keep an eye out for submission announcements!
