Chinese New Year retains its significance here at Thinking*Room. For the Year of the Pig, we decided that we would embrace the animal’s imagery in full.
The pig, the last animal of the zodiac cycle, represents wealth and good fortune. Their chubby cheeks and big ears are thought to bring about good luck. We took this concept and thought that it would be a fun project to bring these associations to the surface and created bacon-infused fortune cookies for digital sharing.
Like many great ideas, the idea came about in spontaneity. Initially, we wanted to make something that involved interaction with users - something that people can do themselves and find themselves in. We were then reminded of fortune cookies, shared after a meal with friends and family, or in our case, co-workers we spent our living hours with.
Our pearls of wisdom, printed on bacon strips, may or may not be wise. Rather than taking on the high road with aphorisms and proverbs, we went a bit cheeky, with quotes like ‘a friend in debt is a friend indeed’ and ‘the longer the wait, the more delight it brings. For example: going to the toilet’.
